An evening at Suttons Beach, Redcliffe, Queensland
It started by a quick trip to the twilight markets and then I decided to go for a drive to Redcliffe. I wanted to see the moon light hit the water just right.
I missed a turn off to Scarborough and decided instead I would see if I could get a park at the always busy Suttons Beach.
Again, just like my last walk, I hopped out of the car and the instant sea weed smell filled my senses and then just as soon as it entered my nose it also left just as quickly.
I turned my attention to the beach. I saw a woman nearly trip and later I realised it was because of the wind. It was very windy. Redcliffe can get quite windy at night and nothing is wrong with this if you pack a light jumper and a hair tie, of which I had neither.
There is something about the cold, that unless I’m dressed for it I tend to move on quickly. But hold on, I came a long way to see the ocean. I wasn’t turning back now.
To my right was a large playground and to my left undercover picnic tables and BBQs. Also, a large toilet block, which you know I always say, is a must.
Directly in front of me was deep stairs to the sand bank and finally the ocean. At first I stood on top of the stairs, taking in the crashing waves. Unfortunately, it was a cloudy evening and the moon’s light was not glistening on the water. However, the fast crashing of the waves made up for it.
It was still breathtakingly beautiful. When I looked back, I saw these tall trees dressing the edging of the ground against the sea. And there was plenty of lighting. Even on the sand. So I went for a short walk on the sand. And then I joined back up the stairs. The wind making me want to go home.
But I decided to stay a bit longer. I walked further and saw a cool undercover spot (pictured). I had to laugh because it didn’t stop the wind at all. And maybe it wasn’t for that purpose. But I thought it was still funny. However the white wood felt it was a perfect fit against the beach landscape.
There were couples around, which I could understand that Suttons Beach was a romantic place to visit. And some families around. A bit further of a walk (or even a drive) and you would find yourself at Settlement Cove, which hosts the free outdoor lagoon.
The lagoon is a must visit, with toilets, BBQs, plenty of place to sit and a playground. Plus different depths to the lagoon, it’s a great one size fits all pool. Also it is outside, so you get to enjoy the ocean view with whatever the weather is at the time of your visit. And you can even go during the evening, although there will be no lifeguards on at night.
However, it seems Suttons has it all. A beach, a lagoon and the amenities that are needed on a day out for this trip. Plus at Settlement Cove there is sometimes a food truck offering hot chips and ice cream, so you literally don’t need to go anywhere else for the day/night.
