Cyclone Alfred for South East Queensland

Image
Image by WikiImages from Pixabay So I am 40 and have never been in a cyclone situation. Unfortunately, I had some plans this week to go visit different, cool and exciting places but due to Cyclone Alfred making its way, I decided I best stay put. I spent two days getting prepared. One good thing about the media is they definitely gave us lots of warning and instructions on how to prepare.  Have I prepared enough? Only time will tell now but I feel like I have followed all the instructions to do what I can to make this cyclone event pass by seemingly unharmed.  Obviously the main focus is safety. So if things go south, I have a back up plan. I just hope with the new infrastructure on where I live, with huge drains being placed behind where I live that the normal flooding I get, will just be that, normal and not overly extra.  Things could flood but as long as I have a safety plan than it will be ok. And I sure hope, if you are also going through this cyclone that you have...

An evening at Suttons Beach, Redcliffe, Queensland

Image
It started by a quick trip to the twilight markets and then I decided to go for a drive to Redcliffe. I wanted to see the moon light hit the water just right.  I missed a turn off to Scarborough and decided instead I would see if I could get a park at the always busy Suttons Beach. Again, just like my last walk, I hopped out of the car and the instant sea weed smell filled my senses and then just as soon as it entered my nose it also left just as quickly.  I turned my attention to the beach. I saw a woman nearly trip and later I realised it was because of the wind. It was very windy. Redcliffe can get quite windy at night and nothing is wrong with this if you pack a light jumper and a hair tie, of which I had neither.  There is something about the cold, that unless I’m dressed for it I tend to move on quickly. But hold on, I came a long way to see the ocean. I wasn’t turning back now.  To my right was a large playground and to my left undercover picnic tables ...

Walking at Bells BeachPark to Woody Point, Redcliffe, Queensland

Image
So every week, I try and go on an adventure and it doesn’t have to be somewhere new. This week, I started at Bells BeachPark and walked to Woody Point Jetty in Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia.  I parked just in front of Bells BeachPark and the instant smell of seaweed was so intense when I opened my car door it made me laugh out loud. And then I closed my door. Was it going to smell the entire time I was out there? I got my things and re-opened the door. The smell quickly left, thank goodness and I didn’t smell it for the rest of the time I was there.  The view immediately was exciting and it was a very interesting walk with all the different types of landscape to see along the way. As you can see in the above photo I took, it half circles around from the beach to trees and then to apartment living.  Walking along the beach, I felt like my stresses were lifted and I definitely could see the benefit of living near a beach. At first I walked close to the waves crashing and...

Venturing to the LifeLine Bookfest

Image
So I wanted to go this year to the LifeLine Bookfest. I have been starting to get back into reading books and the LifeLine Bookfest delivers an array of genres ready for your purchase.  I caught the train and got off at Roma Street. I stopped at 7/11 to get some snacks (because I was in a rush to get the train I forgot the snacks.) I walked a bit further and found the Kurlipa bridge to walk across from to get to the Brisbane Convention Centre at Southbank.  I walked along the river front because to be honest, I couldn’t really remember where the Brisbane Convention Centre was but I thought if I follow the river, it should help me get there. (Of course if I really got lost, I would just use Google Maps).  The water sound was crashing on the other side of the path. It was very peaceful. And even though it was sort of early there were many people walking and riding bikes on the path.  About LifeLine  Going to the Bookfest you feel great that you are supporti...

A walking adventure at Scarborough, Queensland

Image
There is this hidden walking gem that it appears only a few know about. If you go to any water area along Redcliffe there are always people around but here, only a few locals with their dogs seem to know about this place. So where is it?  Endeavour Park off Endeavour Esplanade in Scarborough, Redcliffe, Queensland, Australia.  I left work early and decided to do a walking adventure at one of my favourite locations. The charm of the housing lined up with views of the ocean is smart housing. Plus the different types of boats from sail boats to whale watching yachts is a sight to see and then you have the ocean literally at your feet.  Plus, I don’t know what it is but it’s so cool to see the sky meet with the ocean. You can just breathe fresh air here and just feel good.  The walking area seems small but it isn’t. I did 5,000 steps up and down the strip.  I then walked along the sandy mud because, why not? It’s just as cool.  Look at the beautiful sky in this...

Travelling to Bulcock Beach, Sunshine Coast, Queensland

Image
I was dreaming about seeing the clear and soft sand at the beach at the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. I haven’t been to the Sunshine Coast in about 7 years. I love the Sunshine Coast, especially the beaches and the clear and soft sand and blue skies.  So I decided to catch public transport there (quite a trip but it went quick and 50c fairs #winning) and went to Caloundra up the coast of Brisbane near King’s Beach at Bulcock Beach. A stop at Landsborough station, while the wait for the bus meant exploring Landsborough and discovering the Landsborough museum, which was a cool find. The museum had some interesting history as well as some activities even for adults to partake. It was a free exhibit and also had much needed toilets after the travel.  Caloundra’s crystal waters  The Sunshine Coast has beautiful crystal waters. And this one beach at Bulcock Beach is about a good walk from King’s Beach. The water was still and about knee deep, so I could lay in it, swim...

Exploring Wellington Point

Image
I went to visit Wellington Point beach. I did used to live there when I was young and thought, is there much there?  It was a funny day, it started sunny but the drive to Wellington Point was a wet one. It was the afternoon and I arrived to pouring rain and a dark sky to Wellington Point beach. I have to say though, it still looked stunning. Wellington Point has a road that comes down a hill and then this path so if you wanted could drive around a half circle to see the ocean right round before finding a park.  The first thing I did was get an undercover table and then watched the rain fall. I wasn’t really sure if I would be heading home without actually going on the beach of Wellington Point with the rain heavily pounding the ground. However, by some miracle, the sky dried up and then I walked over to the island. The sun light pushing through the clouds was magnificent over the sand and water. The sand was filled with shells and I heard walking on the ground is called ground...
